Lenworth M. Jacobs, MD, MPH, FACS Trauma Lecture

"You have to have people come together to move forward.” - Lenworth Jacobs, MD, MPH, FACS

Lenworth M. Jacobs, MD, MPH, FACS, a pioneering force in trauma care, retired from Hartford Hospital in 2017, leaving behind a transformative legacy that continues to shape the field. His groundbreaking contributions include establishing Connecticut’s first medical helicopter service, LIFE STAR, founding the state’s Committee on Trauma chapter, and advancing Hartford Hospital into a Level I Trauma Center. Dr. Jacobs created the globally recognized Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) course and helped develop the 45,000 square-foot Center for Simulation, Education, and Innovation (CESI) at Hartford Hospital, attracting experts worldwide to learn, innovate and improve their craft.

In response to the Newtown tragedy, he launched the Stop-The-Bleed campaign, empowering communities and first responders to manage traumatic bleeding in emergencies. Dr. Jacobs' visionary ideas, humility, and dedication have left an enduring impact on trauma care, surgical education and global healthcare. His legacy continues to inspire the annual Lenworth M. Jacobs, MD, MPH, FACS Trauma Lecture, a platform that brings together leading experts to advance trauma care and educate future generations.
